Robert Curgenven

Robert Curgenven is an Australian composer and sound artist living in Cornwall. His work spans immersive resonances via turntables and custom-made vinyl, instrumental harmonics and guitar feedback, through to carefully detailed field recordings from remote areas where he lived for many years. Drawing on the physicality of sound - and not just the physical impact on the body but the way in which the auditory can shape our perception of space and the flow of time – The Wire surmises that 'behind the music—to these ears at any rate—lurk such [disparate] presences as Alvin Lucier, King Tubby, Murray Schafer and Eliane Radigue.' After much of the past six years in Europe, relocating to Cornwall has facilitated a return to the pipe organ, following over 30 years of active engagement in composition, radio and performance since his beginnings as a classically trained organist.

Curgenven has performed over 200 concerts since 2005 throughout Australia and Europe, including Club Transmediale, Ultrahang Festival in Budapest, Feste dell Acqua in Vicenza, Italy, Audiograft Festival in UK, Define Festival in Denmark, Centre for Contemporary Art in Gdansk and Alice Springs Desert Festival. He has presented sound, audiovisual and sculptural work in group exhibitions which include Transmediale in Berlin and 10 Years of Microsound in Diapason Gallery, New York as well as galleries throughout Australia, Italy, France, UK, Germany and a solo exhibition at the Centre for Contemporary Art, Torun in Poland.
